HGTV’s Bryan Baeumler, host of Disaster DIY and House of Bryan stopped in to chat on this week’s The Home Discovery Show. He shared tales of renovation and his own growth in the business. What a great guy. We’ll have to have him back.
Jack from Vancouver called in and got us rolling with his insightful question of “where are the mentors?”. He’s puzzled with why aren’t any of the “older” tradesmen sharing the skills with the younger upstarts. It used to, in days of old, that a trade was passed down from parent to child or even master to student. Now, that seems to only be done in an educational apprenticeship. Interesting discussion.
From there, we went all over the map again, and that’s what makes for a great show – the diversity of calls and questions. Linda asked about a broken nipple. Doug has moss on the roof. Floyd received a marble slab with a crack in it. Rob wants to install radiant heat and an anti-fracture membrane.
With Autumn well underway and Winter not too far away, the preparation for the cold has begun. Margaret clarified on how to secure her outside hose bibs (taps) for the winter and Stuart was looking to get new windows installed before the cold snap, and Ian wants to replace the nylon rollers on a window in his place in Kelowna. Finishing off the show was Brad from Cloverdale. He wants to update the insulation in his condo attic, but is getting some resistance from the building’s strata.
Well, another one for the record books. Great show. Great calls and fantastic listeners. Have a listen here:
As always, thanks for tuning in and reading along. Until next time……
